Border Town Development Policymaking through the Lens of Urbanimmunology

Border towns, situated at the crossroads of nations and cultures, present both opportunities and challenges amid the shifting tides of globalization and regional integration. Drawing on the author’s research, this chapter highlights the critical role of diverse connectivity in fostering cross-border regional development. It explores the development of border towns through the lens of key immune responses, offering policy recommendations such as proactive leadership, resilient infrastructure, strategic connectivity, cultural integration, crisis-proof strategies, and unified cross-border collaboration. The chapter also addresses essential research questions, including cross-border governance, the role of infrastructure in border resilience, fostering social fusion and cross-border identity, and promoting sustainable and equitable prosperity. It concludes by advocating for holistic policymaking approaches that prioritize harmonious, win-win mechanisms and enduring governance to ensure long-lasting prosperity and stability in cross-border regions.
