摘要

The SDGs, developed by the United Nations to address the global predicament, lay down SDG 4 on quality education. In Higher education, these SDGs are achieved by becoming knowledge-makers, knowledge-disseminators, and knowledge-implementers. However, discrepancies remain on various fronts, such as access, quality, and infrastructure across different geographical contexts. AI could create a disruptive impact in the educational space through personalized learning, improved efficiency, and data-driven strategies. The intersection between AI and SDG 4 can create opportunities to tackle the barriers of education and expedite the journey toward inclusive and equitable quality education. The chapter discusses how AI in education began historically, what the present climate looks like concerning AI integration into higher education around the globe, and the ensuing ethical considerations. The implementations examined revealed the successful use of AI for advancing the objectives of educational sustainability. The Digital divide, competition between AI optimization and human values, and privacy concerns are challenges to be recognized and examined. The requirements for responsible AI integration will include policy emergence, the forging of partnerships between public and private sectors, and the development of AI literacy among educators and students. Striking a balance between technological advances and cultural responsiveness and contextual pertinence will be fundamental to harnessing AI for supporting inclusive, effective, and sustainable learning environments towards the realization of SDG 4 and the wider SDG agenda.
