Listening to Voices on Children’s Risky Play: Unearthing New Pathways Forward
摘要
This chapter introduces stakeholders’ perspectives on risky play. Using Clarke and Moss’s (2017) framework of listening, this book brings together a range of perspectives, including those of children, educators, practitioners, community members, and health professionals, to explore this concept. We argue that listening to these voices requires the adoption of the following six perspectives: (1) the use of multiple methods; (2) participatory listening, enabling the co-construction of knowledge; (3) reflexivity, whereby practitioners and researchers are constantly contemplating meaning and interpretation; (4) adaptable listening, which can be applied in various contexts; (5) a strong focus on the lived experiences of children, and (6) using listening as a tool that can be embedded into practice. Using this framework, we demonstrate the ways this book will co-construct meanings regarding children’s risky play. In doing so, our vision is for the reader to pause, step back, and reflect critically on the intersections and divisions between their own views and experiences, juxtaposed with those shared by other authors within this monograph.
