Fertilizer application in agriculture is one of the essential operations, not only for open-field cultivation but also for orchards and indoor cultivation. Broadcasting techniques can be used not only for seeding but also for fertilizer applications. Small-scale farmers in developing countries need to develop their farming operations through mechanization. Moreover, the agriculture sector faces difficulties such as climate change and skill-labor shortage, so farming operations need to be done promptly and skillfully. To solve these problems, machinery and automation have become important in the modern era. Therefore, this chapter explores the development of small-scale seed and fertilizer broadcasting machinery with the scope of automation. The current and prospective seed broadcasting technologies were also discussed to highlight the gap between existing machinery and the appropriate seed broadcasters required by small-scale farmers in developing countries to enhance agricultural productivity.
