Research on the Applicability of Reference Electrodes in Cathodic Protection Systems for Equipment Inner Walls

The reference electrode is a crucial ruler in cathodic protection engineering, especially in the process of detecting the effectiveness of cathodic protection systems under complex working conditions. In response to the difficulty of selecting reference electrodes under complex working conditions, this paper uses different types of reference electrodes and conducts stability tests on reference electrodes in three common water-based media through potential measurement. The stability and variation patterns of reference electrodes under different temperatures and media were obtained as a result. Four types of reference electrodes were optimized, and guidance suggestions were proposed for engineering projects to select reference electrodes according to various working conditions and environments.
