In the development of deep-water oil and gas fields, the harsh conditions of deep-water environments impose higher demands on corrosion protection design. This paper analyzes the deficiencies in current corrosion control international standards and specifications for deep-water environment corrosion protection design through case studies of typical deep-water corrosion failures in the South China Sea. It introduces the exploration and practice conducted in the research of materials and corrosion control technologies for deep-water oil and gas field development. The key technologies and experiences gained in deep-water cathodic protection systems, deep-water coating systems, material selection for deep-water environments, and risk assessment (especially regarding HISC) are fully demonstrated. This provides technical guidance for domestic deep-water corrosion protection design.
