Radiotherapy is a valuable treatment modality in the management of skin cancers, especially non-melanoma types such as basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma, as well as selected cases of melanoma. It may be used as a primary treatment in patients who are unsuitable for surgery, have tumors in cosmetically or functionally sensitive areas, or prefer non-surgical management. Radiotherapy also has an important adjuvant role following surgical excision when high-risk features are present, including close or positive margins, perineural invasion, or lymph node involvement. Modern radiotherapy techniques, such as electron beam therapy, intensity-modulated radiotherapy, and image-guided radiotherapy, enable accurate targeting of tumors while sparing surrounding normal tissues. These advances have led to excellent local control rates with favorable cosmetic and functional outcomes. While surgery remains the mainstay of treatment for most skin cancers, radiotherapy remains an effective alternative or adjunct in selected clinical settings.
