Informal Employment in Urban Labor Market and its Effects on Poverty Reduction
摘要
By using data from China Urban Labor Survey (CULS), this paper thoroughly evaluates poverty among urban residents and migrant workers. Our results show that based on family income per capita, the total poverty incidence rate for urban residents is 4.15%, while for migrant workers, this number reaches 5.65%, 1.8 percentage points higher than local urban residents. Although the proportion of rural migrant workers in in standard employment is declining, they still form the buck of the in standard employment in the urban labor market. For those families at the bottom of income distribution, income from the labor market, especially from in standard employment plays an essential role in poverty reduction. For policymakers, this implies that in standard employment should be fully utilized rather than simply formalized in the urban anti-poverty process.
