The previous discussions demonstrate that China’s fourth-generation investment treaties have emerged, characterized by a liberal approach to investment liberalization and a balanced approach to investment protection. This chapter first summarizes the key features of these fourth-generation treaties (Sect. 5.1) and then analyzes their driving factors (Sect. 5.2). Finally, it argues that, through these four generations of treaties, China has established a comprehensive investment treaty network at the bilateral, regional and multilateral levels (Sect. 5.3).
