Biomimetic Nanodevices for Environmental Sensing and Monitoring
摘要
Biomimicry involves the action of natural elements, structures, and processes to develop novel devices with unique features and functionalities similar to biomolecules. The combination of biomimicry with nanotechnology has led to the development of nanodevices, including biosensors. The application of nanomaterials in biosensors has become an important topic as they provide accurate, fast, and reliable results in various fields, including agriculture, remediation, food safety, and medicine. Biosensors can detect analytes in low concentrations due to their sensitivity at the nanoscale level. They play a commendable role in environmental diagnostics and targeted treatments of critical conditions. In agriculture, they ensure the monitoring and maintenance of biotic and abiotic factors for crop cultivation. They also assess pollutant levels and optimize detoxification in the environment. The operation of these devices is very convenient as they are portable, low-cost, and can be customized based on prevailing conditions. These devices have a significant role in diagnosis of plant infections, customized medication, heavy metal toxicity analysis, and other contaminant determination and clean-up. They have also proven to be the best tool for hazard analysis and environmental monitoring. Furthermore, these devices offer potential for future exploration and advancements. This review briefly discusses biomimetic nanodevices, their types, and advancements in sensing and monitoring techniques in various fields with their applications.
