Construction and Application of the Xiezhi IP Image in Jiexiu Glazed Ridge Beasts Based on Design Semiotics
摘要
This study applies the principles of design semiotics to develop and implement an Intellectual property (IP) image for the Xiezhi, a traditional glazed ridge beast from Jiexiu. The Xiezhi, a mythical creature symbolizing justice and fairness, holds deep cultural significance in traditional Chinese architecture and serves as a prominent representation of Jiexiu’s glazed craftsmanship. By analyzing the Xiezhi symbol within a four-dimensional framework of semantics, pragmatics, context, and syntax, the study explores its explicit and implicit meanings, such as its role in AR-based educational communication. Through integrating design semiotics with modern design practices, this research proposes innovative approaches to revitalize intangible cultural heritage and promote traditional Chinese culture. The findings demonstrate that through the creation of Xiezhi IP series figurines and AR applications, the project successfully bridges historical craftsmanship with contemporary cultural consumption and education, broadening the reach and impact of Jiexiu glazed ware.
