Learning Path Recommenders Through IoT and AI-Driven Personalization

Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) have revolutionized education by providing global access to diverse learning resources. However, their conventional one-size-fits-all design often neglects learners’ unique preferences, cognitive needs, and abilities, leading to disengagement, frustration, and alarmingly low completion rates. To address these limitations, this paper introduces RecMOOC, a ground-breaking framework that integrates Internet of Things (IoT) devices, learning analytics, and adaptive artificial intelligence (AI) technologies to transform online education. RecMOOC personalizes learning experiences in real-time by diagnosing and adapting to learners’ cognitive states, emotional engagement, and behavioral patterns. It collects multimodal data through IoT devices and dynamically adjusts content using AI, creating customized learning pathways that empower learners to take control of their education. This framework ensures inclusivity by accommodating diverse abilities and addressing accessibility barriers. RecMOOC seamlessly integrates advanced technologies to deliver tailored educational experiences, significantly boosting engagement, reducing dropout rates, and fostering equity in digital education. By transforming MOOCs into personalized and learner-centered environments, RecMOOC sets a new standard for scalable, inclusive, and effective online learning, offering a visionary approach to the future of global education.
