Journeying: Geographies of Belonging in a Fractured World
摘要
This chapter attends to the ways in which storying place can help us locate and navigate our positioning in the world. By storying a university bursary—a seemingly mundane bureaucratic building—I trace my own journey as an international scholar, from earlier movements in life to building an academic career across Brazil, the United States, Australia and the Netherlands. In storying my journey through the bursary-place, I challenge assumptions about what places, and thus what journeys, are worthy of being storied and what countering persistent silences can mean for those who continue to feel and remain marginalised, also within academic circles. Ultimately, the chapter foregrounds the entanglements of places that exist at the intersections of multiple life stories and a sense of belonging, while staying attentive to the uneven political possibilities of being and becoming through place in a fractured world.
