Hospitality as a cultural and political practice has defined mobility between Afghanistan and Iran and has shaped the border between the two neighbouring states. This chapter draws on historical sources and contemporary narratives to conceptualise hospitality as both a moral obligation and a mechanism of governance. It examines refugee reception, cross-border kinship ties, and the shifting nature of host-guest relationships within changing geopolitical environments, towards an understanding of how hospitality mediates displacement, belonging, and state-society relations.

摘要

Hospitality as a cultural and political practice has defined mobility between Afghanistan and Iran and has shaped the border between the two neighbouring states. This chapter draws on historical sources and contemporary narratives to conceptualise hospitality as both a moral obligation and a mechanism of governance. It examines refugee reception, cross-border kinship ties, and the shifting nature of host-guest relationships within changing geopolitical environments, towards an understanding of how hospitality mediates displacement, belonging, and state-society relations.
