Under the Japanese reimbursement code ‘J039 Plasma Exchange Therapy’, three treatment options are available: plasma exchange (PE), double filtration plasmapheresis (DFPP), and plasma adsorption therapy. Plasma exchange can be performed using membrane-based separation (mTPE) or centrifugal separation (cTPE). Membrane separation includes both simple plasma exchange and selective plasma exchange (SePE). SePE utilizes membranes with smaller pores, enabling the removal of substances up to the size of immunoglobulin G (IgG), while preserving coagulation factors.
