Roselle Seeds (Hibiscus sabdariffa L.)
摘要
Roselle (Hibiscus sabdariffa L.), traditionally valued for its fiber and calyces, is equally esteemed for its versatility in ornamental gardening, culinary uses, nutritional supplements, paper manufacturing, building materials, livestock nourishment, and medicinal formulations. The plant also holds untapped potential in its underutilized seeds. Seeds contain an abundance of valuable proteins, essential fatty acids, and bioactive compounds and offer promising applications across various industries, including food, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, and biofuels. Despite their nutritional and functional benefits, they remain an overlooked resource. Neglecting the seeds without attempting to utilize their potential leads to unnecessary waste. This chapter probes into the diverse industrial and environmental applications of roselle seeds, emphasizing their role in sustainable practices such as waste reduction and circular economy initiatives. By bridging scientific research with industrial opportunities, this discussion highlights how the efficient utilization of roselle seeds can contribute to human health, environmental sustainability, and the development of a greener economy.
