Successful Cases of Mathematical Applications in Business through the Industrial Problem Solving Workshop
摘要
The economic growth of a country is intrinsically linked to its capacity to generate and disseminate scientific and technological knowledge. In this context, institutions that produce knowledge, such as universities and research centers, play a fundamental role. Industry is also crucial, especially in developing economies, where companies are the main investors in research, development, and innovation (R&D + I) (Vigo Barrientos, 2024). The rapid technological evolution of recent years has led to a new production paradigm known as Industry 4.0. Micro, small, and medium enterprises (MIPYMEs) in Mexico face highly complex scenarios, as their operational conditions often respond to market urges, making it difficult for them to achieve an adequate level of digital maturity. Therefore, adopting technologies requires robust technical and financial capabilities, which often prevents them from integrating innovations into their processes. The Centro de Investigación en Matemáticas (CIMAT) is a public organization in Mexico whose fundamental objective is the transfer of knowledge in mathematics and computer science. CIMAT seeks to contribute to the social, economic, scientific, and technological development of the country by integrating cutting-edge research in its areas of expertise. This article presents successful cases of collaboration between academia and industry through a one-week intensive workshop designed for organizations to obtain solution proposals for specific problems using specialized knowledge in mathematics and computer science. Additionally, this workshop trains graduate students in mathematics, offering them the opportunity to engage in solving real problems and developing essential skills for their future careers beyond the academic sphere.
