Balancing Acts—Self-Identification and Identity Formations

In this chapter, I dedicate to the first pillar of immigrant agencyagencyimmigrant, namely identity formationidentity formation. International migration creates transnational social spacestransnational social spaces (TSS) for diverse identity constructions. Migration can bring to the forefront identities that were previously less significant or hidden. On an individual level, these identity projects may trigger the question “Who am I?” revealing a need for the renegotiationrenegotiations of self-understanding.
