Carbon dots (CDs), which are characterized by the nanoscale size, high fluorescence, and spectacular biocompatibility, occupy a very unique position in diagnostics and bioimaging. Because of their unique optical characteristics, functional surface groups, and ease in manufacturing with a variety of natural sources, CDs are promising for use in healthcare, food safety, and agriculture. This chapter highlights recent advances in eco-production of CDs and their practical application in bioimaging, medical diagnostics, therapy, food safety monitoring, and sustainable agriculture technologies. It also discusses the complexity and possible growth in the future of CD technology for practical use.

摘要
