摘要

Current surfactant science prioritizes chemistry that is inclusively environmentally beneficial. In this context, highly efficient “green” chemicals like biosurfactants derived from natural resources are proved to be exceptionally suitable. The search of the less polluting and ecology friendly solvents is driving the introduction of increasingly environmentally acceptable movements in recent days. Compounds that have properties like low toxicity, biodegradability, chemical-stability, ecofriendly, effective solubilization, and easy to recycle are becoming pivotal tools. Surfactants are of significant interest because of their highly effective performances, lower critical micelle concentrations (CMC), along with other advanced characteristics that match the modern scientific desire for environmental upgradation. Microbial biosurfactants show an extensive range of physicochemical properties, e.g., high surface activity, emulsification, foaming, and wetting, which make them highly valuable in various industrial applications. This book chapter is intended to offer detailed discussions on the efficiency of microbial biosurfactants (henceforth MBSs) as contemporary “green” chemicals across diverse fields of science, which include experiments in a science laboratory to the varied industrial fields like food processing, cosmetics, detergents, agro-industrial applications, enhanced oil-recovery, personal care and pharmaceutical fields, highlighting the promising future prospects of these types of environmental-friendly chemicals.
