Hydrogen storage remains a major bottleneck in the hydrogen supply chain. The commercially matured technologies, such as compressed and liquefied hydrogen storage, suffer from major techno-economic limitations in terms of mass scale adoption. Metal hydride-based hydrogen storage technology is viewed as one of the potential media for long-term safe hydrogen storage with higher volumetric hydrogen storage. This chapter provides a brief overview, challenges and pathway on the design and development of metal hydride-based hydrogen storage systems for their different applications. The insights and discussions provided within this chapter aim to support the conceptualization and advancement of practical metal hydride storage systems through both numerical modeling and experimental methods.
