This chapter serves as a concluding reflection of the book. We suggest that the Engaging With Vietnam initiative’s desire to encourage people from different walks of life, people employing different methodologies, approaches, and disciplines, and writing, producing, and performing about Vietnam in diverse ways, to come together to critically enhance our understanding, or rather, understandings, of Vietnam in the world is in fact a call to embrace a multifaceted Vietnam. This desire in fact underscores our approach in this book, treating living with heritage as a mode of living, and encouraging chapter contributors to look back, talk about, reflect, or just simply describe how we have been living vis-a-vis a practice, an architectural structure, an object, a route we travel, a mode of travel, a way of speaking, the things we eat, and so on and so forth. As a result, we argue, writing about living with heritage is necessarily inclusive, indulgently insular, anthological, and multi-disciplined, embracing the multifaceted Vietnam that we know, experience, and live in today. Living with heritage is a call for continuing and on-going efforts to help to make sense of this dynamic idea called “heritage” by opening up spaces to listen to the diverse voices and engage in equal dialogues.

摘要
