Any Developmental efforts must be grounded in the overarching goal of improving the quality of “socio-cultural life” not simply economic or material growth. To realize this objective, we need a “societal development” more than merely “social development” as conceptual framework, one that comprehensively and holistically addresses the enhancement of fundamental elements within the socio-cultural system, which encompasses the Structural aspect (pertaining to power relations patterns), Cultural aspect (involving internalized values, norms, and traditions), and Processual aspect (encompassing the dynamics of daily interactions, the quality of the public sphere for expressing aspirations and creativity). This book aligns with Du Bois’ concept of “applied sociology” and draws insights from critiques of Growth-oriented Development through embracing the new paradigm of Development from People-Centered Development, Human Development, and Sustainable Development movements.

摘要
