Human Rights Concerns in Biotechnology
摘要
Undoubtedly, biotechnology has opened up many new horizons in the scientific world. However, the scientific progress made in this field is also accompanied by many problematic questions from both legal and human rights point of views. While a human rights approach is only one of the ways to deal with the problem, it has the advantage of combining law and ethics. An inquiry into the integration of law, human rights, and ethics reveals the existence of the fundamental principles of natural law even before the formulation of formal moral law and morality. At the same time, the fundamental notions of human rights are also universal in nature and character. A jurisprudential enquiry into the concept of life reveals that there are few intrinsic values attached to life. The conceptual framework of life is connected to the natural law that advocates for the inherent values of life such as dignity, integrity, sustenance, survival, and self-preservation.
