The flipped approach allows more classroom time for discussions, activities, and hands-on learning experiences, ultimately enhancing the overall learning effectiveness. In this study, we explored the impacts of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) generated content in assisting flipped approach in science teaching. Our students have indicated that flipped classroom using GenAI-empowered videos can help them in reviewing and previewing teaching materials, thereby fostering a positive learning environment.HeyGen and Synthesia-generated videos and Panopto (uRewind) video platform were used to support flipped laboratory classes in four undergraduate subjects, including our popular science general education courses (ABCT1D09 Greenhouse Gases and Life and ABCT/FSN1D10 Food Color Taste and Smell), as well as disciplinary specific subjects (ABCT3622 Experimental Techniques in Chemistry as well as ABCT3625 Chromatographic Analysis Laboratory). In general, our pilot results showed that over 30% students believed the use of GenAI to generate tutorial materials can improve their understanding and overall learning experience compared to traditional teaching methods.

摘要
