Enhancing Student Exam Preparation with Generative Artificial Intelligence
摘要
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is increasingly integrated into modern education, with Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) transforming educational models by providing powerful tools that present both opportunities and challenges. As AI-generated content makes traditional written evaluation methods less reliable for evaluating authentic student understanding, oral exams are emerging as a preferred assessment method to verify genuine comprehension and critical thinking skills. However, oral exams often provoke significant anxiety and stress among students. This study introduces a GenAI-based dual-agent chatbot system designed to support students in preparing for oral exams through simulated exam-like interactions and immediate, personalized feedback. We address three primary research questions: students’ initial perceptions of and current usage patterns for GenAI tools for exam preparation; effective design of GenAI-enhanced tools for oral exam preparation; and the impact of GenAI chatbots on student confidence, anxiety, and content comprehension. The prototype was deployed and evaluated in the Introduction to Embodied Artificial Intelligence course, part of the Master’s program in Robotics at the University of Southern Denmark. Results demonstrate the potential of domain-specific GenAI tools to enhance oral exam preparation by addressing both cognitive and affective learning dimensions within higher education.
