Key Performance Indicators for 6G Technology

As the 6G is being implemented and enjoyed worldwide, 6G is expected to further revolutionize the field of communication technology by integrating the cutting-edge technologies as artificial intelligence, machine learning, big data, blockchain, and quantum computing. The 6G network performance is evaluated through various “key performance indicators”, and these KPIs are the basic evaluation for the performance and monitoring of 6G wireless networks. The operation, development, marketing, and enhancement of 6G networks deeply depend on these evaluator KPIs as they provide quantifiable measures to gauge and appraise the 6G network performance against the standards demanded by various applications to meet their desired performance. 6G KPIs include measurements related to eight KPIs defined for 5G and addition range of metrics to cover security, sensing, positioning accuracy, and intelligence. Below, the chapter explains each KPI in the context of 6G technology, along with the expected performance and enhancements of each parameter to facilitate 6G communication technology. The novel technological enablers, the challenges, and the potential solutions are also discussed for the successful deployment and operation of 6G technology. Artificial intelligence and machine learning, which are in their full bloom, also play a crucial role in autonomously monitoring, analyzing, predicting, and controlling the next-generation networks. This is also discussed in detail by comparing it with the conventional system, which was used for former communication technologies.
