This chapter explores politics of generative artificial intelligence in empowering education in Malaysia. With the popularization of the Internet and the advancement of the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR), global education has accelerated towards digital transformation and entered the stage of education 4.0. Education 4.0 not only focuses on the application of technology, but also focuses on the development of students’ personalized learning ability, self-learning ability, and global citizenship skills, which are important contents of the education Framework 4.0 proposed by the World Economic Forum. Since the 1980s, Malaysia has gradually introduced digital technology and promoted the modernization of education through computer-aided management and curriculum digitization. At present, several landmark projects have been implemented, such as the Smart School initiative, the 1BestariNet project, and the Multimedia Super Corridor Initiative. The core objective of these projects is to improve the coverage and quality of educational resources through information technology. However, the development of digital education still faces challenges such as weak infrastructure, a clear digital divide between urban and rural areas, and insufficient digital skills of teachers. In response to these issues, the Malaysian government is committed to narrowing the digital gap and strengthening digital infrastructure through the implementation of the Education Grand Blueprint and a series of science and technology policies to promote the implementation of digital economy and Industrial Revolution 5.0. At the same time, the professional skills of teachers and the technical conditions of schools should be upgraded to ensure that the education system can adapt to the rapidly changing needs of society. The digital transformation of education needs the concerted efforts of government, educational institutions, teachers, students and society. Through the continuous optimization of policies and resource allocation, Malaysia is moving towards a more modern and globally competitive education system to lay a solid talent base for the country’s development.
