While globalization has dramatically increased the demand for business translation, existing programs or curricula on business translation often fall short of student and employer expectations due to various restrictions. To bridge this gap, investing in new-form business translation teaching materials offers a viable solution. Generally referring to innovative alternatives to conventional paper-based textbooks, new-form teaching materials, as an evolving concept, are continually shaped by rapid technological advancements, shifting pedagogical environments and the needs of diverse students. Against such a backdrop, this research intends to examine features, development trends and potential challenges of new-form business translation teaching materials. An investigation reveals that published high-quality business translation textbooks are rare and new-form business translation teaching materials are underdeveloped. Thus, besides direct examination, information is mainly acquired by drawing upon literature and insights from other fields or disciplines, making comparative analysis and carrying out small-scale personal interviews with publishing house editors as well as business translation learners. A comprehensive literature review and comparative analysis indicates that new-form business translation teaching materials are generally characterized by multimedia-rich content, real-time updates, readily accessible references and higher interactivity. Although currently imperfect, they are embracing key developmental trends which, referring to recent research in the field of language learning and teaching, include leveraging AI in the materials creation process, adopting Open Educational Resources (OER) and promoting inclusive education. However, these innovations would encounter significant technical, ethical and pedagogical challenges, which are analysed here through theoretical and pragmatic lenses. Supplemented by small-scale personal interviews, this research also proposes strategies to address the challenges, aiming to foster innovative teaching and sustainable learning in future business translation training.
