The research and application of acoustic emission technology originated in the 1960s. After decades of development, it has become a mature, non-destructive testing method and is widely used in pressure vessel detection and structural integrity evaluation. This paper takes a liquefied petroleum gas spherical tank as a typical case and introduces the situation and effect of acoustic emission testing on it over the past 30 years. The data of each acoustic emission test was analyzed to obtain the health status of the spherical tank, and the corresponding maintenance strategy was proposed. Finally, the trend and thinking of the development of acoustic emission testing of pressure vessels toward monitoring were pointed out.
