This chapter critically explores the intricate relationship between gender and development (GAD), shedding light on pivotal paradigms and feminist ideologies that have shaped this discourse. The introduction provides a contextual backdrop, emphasizing the evolving nature of development paradigms and their intersection with feminist thought. A detailed analysis follows, focusing on Sustainable Development Goal 5 and its associated targets and indicators, providing a comprehensive overview of global aspirations for gender equality. The narrative transitions to the national level, examining policies and actions designed to propel women’s development forward. Specifically, this chapter turns its focus to Bangladesh, assessing progress made and challenges faced in the realm of GAD. A forward-looking perspective is offered through an exploration of development alternatives for women, aimed at enhancing inclusivity and empowerment. Last, this chapter concludes by synthesizing key insights, addressing the complexities of GAD, and envisioning pathways for a more equitable and sustainable future.
