Obsession is a repetitive, persistent thought or desire that leads to compulsion, meaning repeated behavior. This is a psychological disorder that causes anxiety, stress, and discomfort. It includes unreasonable thoughts that lead to compulsive behavior. Such disorders get entangled with someone’s life that it becomes tedious for them to overcome it. Fear, aggression, unwanted thoughts, washing, cleaning, and a stick routine are some peculiar symptoms generally seen in OCD. It is a chronic condition that interferes with social interaction and performing daily tasks. There are various causes of OCD. Obsessive–compulsive disorder has been linked to genetics, brain structure alterations, childhood trauma, paediatric autoimmune neuropsychiatric illnesses caused by streptococcal infections, and other factors. Treatment of OCD includes psychotherapy or talk therapy and medications, including serotonin reuptake inhibitors and antidepressants. Despite these, a balanced diet having several nutritional supplements and herbal elements are used in the treatment. Vitamin D, vitamin B12, and folic acid influence neurotransmitters and act on brain functioning. Similarly, zinc, omega fatty acids, and food with high antioxidants are effective in the treatment. This chapter is an effort to provide information about OCD and the significance of nutrients in its management.
