This chapter serves as an appendix summarizing tools frequently used in many-body perturbation theory, such as second quantization and Green’s functions. The material is motivated from the discussion around Sect. 10.2.3 in the main text. In the context of the in-depth discussion on the characteristics of ab initio QMC methods in Chap. 10 , it is important to understand these methods in contrast to formalisms using field operators. With the goal of understanding Green’s functions for field operators in Sect. 17.2.6, this appendix provides a minimal path leading up to that point.
