Sichuan is an economic and cultural area in ancient China, but it is not isolated. It is connected with other regions, especially with the Central Plains. The mountains in Sichuan are tall and the river currents are swift. Poets in the Tang Dynasty wrote of the area that “such travelling is harder than scaling the blue sky” but this excessive exaggeration is not a fact. Rather, such a difficult environment could not limit the footprints of our brave and hardworking ancestors.
