From the Government to the Public: Analysis of Central Asian Countries’ Perception of China-Proposed Belt and Road Initiative
摘要
All Central Asian countries paid special attention to the Chinese government and the Chinese leader’s proposal to jointly build the Silk Road Economic Belt. However, their governments and people perceived and reacted to the proposal differently, which is worth careful analysis by the academia. The author points out that although the governments of Central Asian countries all appreciate and actively respond to China’s proposal to jointly build the Silk Road Economic Belt, we must be mindful of the sense of “fear” toward China that exists in Central Asian society. Therefore, both China and Central Asian countries should do more to increase people-to-people exchanges and deepen mutual understanding, let the people truly benefit from the win-win cooperation under BRI, and make them realize the importance of building the community with a shared future.
