Mandelic acid (MA) is an alpha hydroxy acid obtained from amygdalin, a glycoside found in bitter almonds, peaches and apricots. For chemical peeling, 30%, 40% and 50% MA have been used. As it is a larger molecule compared to GA, it has slower penetration and is therefore a safer peel.
