Tacrolimus and pimecrolimus are topical calcineurin inhibitors widely used in dermatology. They are of particular importance in those dermatoses with a mild to moderate presentation, wherein they can be considered a valuable alternative to topical steroids, thereby avoiding the side effects following prolonged steroid application. Nevertheless, there are some concerns that need to be kept in mind while prescribing topical calcineurin inhibitors.
