Clindamycin is a synthetic derivative of lincomycin and is employed for treating a number of dermatologic disorders. It is of particular value in treating cellulitis in patients exhibiting penicillin sensitivity. Other dermatoses where clindamycin is employed include acne, rosacea, hidradenitis suppurativa, folliculitis decalvans, Fox–Fordyce disease and pyodermas. Though well tolerated, the possibility of pseudomembranous colitis (one of its side effects) needs to be carefully monitored.
