Macrolides are an important class of drugs employed for dermatologic use. Apart from being utilized as an antibiotic for cutaneous infections, its use as an anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory drug in dermatology needs to be distinctively emphasized. Dermatoses like bullous pemphigoid, confluent and reticulate papillomatosis, granulomatous cheilitis, psoriasis and pityriasis rosea, to name a few, have all benefited following macrolide use. This chapter discusses these facets of macrolides in dermatologic practice.
