Assam, being at the meeting point of two biodiversity hotspots, harbors distinct ecosystems rich in unique plant and animal life. This rich biodiversity of the state is a boon for the tribal and marginal rural populations who depend directly or indirectly on these resources for their survival. The present study was conducted in 2019 to document the commonly traded bioresources of Assam. After surveying 248 local markets of Assam for a duration of one year, a total of 861 bioresources were documented, of which 126 were shortlisted as high-value resources having potential for generating income of local people through the implementation of the access and benefit sharing mechanism with commercial users of such resources. This commercial aspect of tradable bioresources, if tapped effectively, will contribute to achieving Goal 1 of the Sustainable Development Goals besides their role in abolishing hunger and maintaining good health of the local rural and urban populace.
