In Zimbabwe, traditional leaders play a significant role in the lives of orphaned and vulnerable children (OVC). This chapter explores the role of traditional leaders in caring for OVC in Zimbabwe. Using a desktop and critical discourse analysis approach, this chapter examines the ways in which traditional leaders can support OVC and their caregivers. The analysis reveals that traditional leaders are well-positioned to provide emotional, social, and economic support to OVC and their caregivers, and that their involvement is critical in promoting the well-being of OVC. However, this chapter also highlights the challenges faced by traditional leaders in caring for OVC, including limited resources and inadequate support from the government and non-governmental organisations. The main finding of this chapter is that traditional leaders play a crucial role in promoting the well-being of OVC in Zimbabwe. The recommendation to policy and practice is that traditional leaders should be supported and empowered to care for OVC.
