Like other Southern African countries, Zimbabwe has been severely affected by the HIV/AIDS pandemic and other socio-economic and political challenges that have affected the livelihoods of the general populace in the past three decades to date. While the socio-economic and political difficulties have disintegrated families and caused people to live in abject poverty, the tragic consequences of HIV/AIDS have been the burgeoning orphan crisis. This chapter introduces the Child Care Policy and legislative frameworks in Zimbabwe. The focus of this chapter is on the responsive enactment of the OVC policies and legislation in Zimbabwe. This desktop and critical discourse analysis aims to examine the prospects and challenges of Zimbabwe’s childcare policies and legislative frameworks in relation to childcare systems. This also aims to assess the impact of these contemporary coping strategies on the prevailing traditional OVC approaches. This chapter, therefore, concludes that the policies in Zimbabwe were formulated without the consent of grassroots communities, especially in rural areas.
