The COVID-19 pandemic has had a profound impact on vulnerable populations worldwide, including orphaned and vulnerable children (OVC) in Zimbabwe. The pandemic has exacerbated existing social and economic challenges, further compromising the livelihoods of OVC. This book chapter employs a desktop research methodology, combined with critical discourse analysis, to examine the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the livelihoods of OVC in Zimbabwe. The analysis reveals that the pandemic has led to increased poverty, food insecurity, and loss of access to education and healthcare for OVC. This chapter highlights the need for policymakers and practitioners to prioritise the needs of OVC in response and recovery efforts. The primary finding of this chapter is that the COVID-19 pandemic has had a profoundly devastating impact on the livelihoods of OVC in Zimbabwe, necessitating urgent attention and action. The recommendation to policy and practice is to prioritise the needs of OVC in pandemic response and recovery efforts, ensuring access to essential services and support.
