In this chapter, after briefly introducing the characteristics of earthquake rupture phenomena revealed by seismic wave observations, we theoretically examine the dynamic propagation of two-dimensional shear cracksShear crack as a model of earthquake rupture. In modeling the two-dimensional cracks, the focus is primarily on semi-infinite cracks that propagate at constant velocities, which is easy to analyze mathematically. However, to address the inherent weakness of semi-infinite cracks, we also consider the difference from what would be expected from finite size cracks.

摘要

In this chapter, after briefly introducing the characteristics of earthquake rupture phenomena revealed by seismic wave observations, we theoretically examine the dynamic propagation of two-dimensional shear cracksShear crack as a model of earthquake rupture. In modeling the two-dimensional cracks, the focus is primarily on semi-infinite cracks that propagate at constant velocities, which is easy to analyze mathematically. However, to address the inherent weakness of semi-infinite cracks, we also consider the difference from what would be expected from finite size cracks.
