This chapter examines the policy-related challenges that hinder effective responses to climate change. It begins with an overview of systemic problems in major countries, including inconsistent energy strategies and insufficient CO₂ pricing. It critiques the overreliance on electric vehicles and the unrealistic expectations surrounding a hydrogen society, pointing out the neglect of energy system integration and infrastructure needs. This chapter highlights widespread misunderstanding about energy costs and the lack of awareness regarding the scalability of renewable energy. It also addresses the tendency in academia to focus excessively on high-tech solutions while neglecting practical, scalable strategies. Finally, it emphasizes the importance of numerical literacy in policymaking and the need for interdisciplinary collaboration. This chapter argues that technological optimism must be tempered by realistic assessments of energy systems and that a methanol-centered strategy deserves more attention in global climate discourse.
