Thinking Toward the Future
摘要
This final chapter highlights the critical roles of citizens, policy frameworks, and philosophical reflection in the pursuit of carbon neutrality. Active civic engagement, as seen in France’s Climate Citizens’ Assembly, can catalyze policy innovation and public support. Similarly, model cities like Sonderborg, Denmark, demonstrate how localized, community-driven efforts can serve as national and global exemplars. This chapter cautions against overreliance on emerging high-tech solutions and instead emphasizes reorganizing and deploying existing technologies that are accessible and effective. In this context, methanol emerges as a promising transitional energy carrier due to its compatibility with existing infrastructure and its potential for immediate emission reductions. Carbon pricing is introduced as a key economic mechanism to internalize the cost of carbon emissions and promote cleaner technologies. Beyond technical and policy tools, this chapter calls for philosophical engagement with the ethical dimensions of energy use, resource conservation, and long-term sustainability. Embracing circular economy principles and rethinking humanity’s relationship with energy are essential to building a resilient, carbon-neutral future. The vision of a methanol-based society embodies these ideals, integrating practicality, innovation, and environmental responsibility.
