Research and Application of Lead Pouring Technology in Transfer Cask of Spent Fuel Dry Storage

As the key equipment for spent fuel dry storage, the transfer cask is used to carry the spent fuel storage canister during the spent fuel loading and in-site transfer, and provide structural protection, radiation shielding and heat transferring for the spent fuel storage canister. The lead shielding layer is injected between the shells of the transfer cask for shielding radiation. In order to ensure the shielding effect of the lead shielding layer, it is necessary to use an appropriate and effective lead pouring procedure to ensure the uniform and dense of lead shielding layer. A new lead pouring procedure is proposed in this paper, the real-time monitoring method by thermocouple is used for the first time to evaluate the lead pouring effect of the lead layer theoretically. Combined with the sample test, the effectiveness and correctness of the procedure are verified. The lead shielding layer is dense without bubbles, and the gap between the lead shielding layer and the inner layer of transfer cask is smaller than 1 mm.
