Studying the dry storage base on spent fuel of MNSR and the special container for it. Based on the assumption of new fuels, fully loading, or maximum burn up, keff and the dose rate at the container surface were calculated by MNSR code. The calculation results indicate that densely arranged containers, the keff is less than 0.95; the highest dose rate spot of the container is the side surface and is less than 2 mSv h−1. The results indicate that dry storage using the special container for MNSR is critical safe and radiation safe. This study demonstrates the feasibility of adopting a dry storage scheme for overseas spent fuel received in the LEU conversion project of MNSR.
