In this field, Data Mining and Knowledge Discovery in Databases (KDD), experts try to find meaningful information from huge collections of data. Because this field deals with lots of data, external sources of information can greatly improve the analysis. Hence, several different techniques have been created to mix Semantic Web data with traditional data mining and knowledge finding processes. Here, we will look into various ways to find information that is usually hidden in different branches of science. With the use of Linked Open Data, the survey also describes how it is possible to set up content-based recommender systems. Even though Semantic Web technologies and Linked Open Data showclear potential, there are not enough applications in data mining and KDD using them.
