This work is an introductory contribution to the sociology of inequality in the BRICS countries, and relates a sociology of BRICS instead of a BRICS sociology, and seeks to understand inequality in differing national contexts. Inequality may be expediently thought of as inequality manifesting as poverty and social deprivation contrasting with extreme wealth and material luxury of groups in a society, measured in historical and phenomenological terms.
